I have been looking forward to my trip to Ireland since I started doing trick shots for the Golf Digest Ireland back in June. Due to the pandemic, it is not possible at the moment, so I thought I would use this time to tell you about some of the most wonderful places in France to stay and play golf.
What better place is there to start than the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur), which is the Mediterranean coast of southeastern France. It includes famously glamorous beach resorts such as Saint-Tropez and Cannes and the independent microstate of Monaco.
Just like the “Wine Route”, a “Golf Route” has been created by the French Tourism Authority in order to highlight the numerous golf courses located in Provence-Côte d’Azur. The region has indeed a wide range of golf facilities, from prestigious 18-hole courses to innovative training & practice facilities.
Hence, the online platform www.laroutedesgolfs.com allows you to create your tailor-made golf trip to the facilities of your choice (9-holes and 18-hole courses), while benefiting discounts on the green fees, up to -30% depending on the season:
The section PROVENCE GOLF PASS, managed by the Provence Tourism Authority, gathers 27 golf facilities.
The section PASS COTE D’AZUR, managed by the Côte-d’Azur Tourism Authority, gathers 29 golf facilities.
As a member of the Golf Route, Golf Up is able to book your pass for you. Moreover, Le Clos des Oliviers**** is just the perfect gateway to the Golf’ Route since it has up to ten 18-hole courses within a 35-mile radius.
My destination is Le Clos des Oliviers and GOLF UP located at Grimaud, 10km from Saint-Tropez. Golf Up unique golf resort with a twist – it was the first golf course in Europe to be covered entirely by artificial grass. It is a 9 hole course with a fabulous practice facility. The first in the south-east of France to offer TopTracer technology and interactive golf games. To be honest, I’ve never seen anything like this in France before.
The accommodation, Le Clos des Oliviers extends from a former Provencal Mas that was refurbished and enlarged. The property was designed as a village with private spaces to offer peace and serenity throughout your stay.
There are nine, one, two and three-bedroom apartments located on-site, all of which which are very bright, private and without vis-à-vis. The restaurant/bar La TABLE des OLIVIERS is open 7/7, all year round and non-golfers and golfers are welcome to enjoy delicious meals cooked by the Chef with fresh and local products.
You can experience the indoor modern and bright room, or take advantage of the large terrasse nestled in a beautiful green setting with a view of the golf course.
Spending a weekend here was so enjoyable not only because of the golf and facilities but because there is a wonderful fun atmosphere about the place. Everybody is enjoying themselves, smiling, laughing, having fun while at the same time trying to play better golf.

From beginner to accomplished golfer, Golf Up offers something for everyone. The course is open to golfers and non-golfers alike, no member card or golf green card needed.
While I was there, I wanted to do few trick shots and to see the practice facility, which consists of a 273 yard driving range, 45 bays, three training rooms with TrackMan and two putting greens.
It also has a Titleist Regional Fitting Centre, so you’re able to have access to the Titleist Fitting experience.
This is the ultimate personal fitting experience. Golfers are treated exactly like PGA Tour players and we experience the same process, equipment and TrackMan Launch Monitor technology that the best players in the world rely on to improve their game.

A Titleist golf club fitting is so much more than determining your specs – it’s about learning which shots you need and finding the right clubs to hit those shots.
A properly fit set of clubs will help you get the most out of your lessons and game and allow you to have a much more enjoyable time out on the course. You could be making all the right moves that you’ve learned in your lessons, but if your clubs are ill fitted for you and your swing, they can hinder the results and even cause you to “swing around” your clubs rather than your clubs being an extension of your body.
With an incredible choice of shafts, heads, grips, as well as an array of adjustments on the brands Titleist and Scotty Cameron, you will find the balls and clubs that fit your swing perfectly.

GOLF UP’s Academy provides golf teaching lessons, open to all. The certified teachers adapt their sessions to all levels – beginners to experienced golfers – and offer various programs so that everyone can progress at their own pace.
There are free golf lessons every Saturday between 3pm-5pm, junior programs and private lessons – something for everybody.
Designed for beginners and experienced golfers alike, the Par 3 course offers a fun and complete approach to the game.
This kind of course is very trendy thanks to a shorter game format in distance (less than 90 meters) and time (average playing time 1h30) and the advantage of accuracy over strength.
This course is accessible for golfers and non-golfers alike and to emphasise the fun aspect of Golf Up, there is a special ‘Happy Hour’ competition every weekend. It costs €10 to enter and you must play the course with just two clubs and one ball.
I arrived with a smile on my face and left with an even bigger one.
