Tom McKibbin needs something special in the final round of the second stage of Korn Ferry Tour Q-School if he is to advance to the third stage after a one-under 70 left him on one-under through three rounds in Alabama.

It means the 18-year-old is four shots outside the top-20 which will advance to stage three so he needs a big final round if he is to keep his hopes alive.

The Holywood native made the turn in 36 with one birdie and one bogey before a bogey on ten left him needing a big finish to give him some momentum heading into the final 18.

To his credit, he birdied 16 and 18 to get into the clubhouse at one-under.

Meanwhile Conor Purcell saw his hopes all but end after a three-over 75 dropped him back to one-over for the week and six shots outside the top-20.

The Portmarnock player traded just the one birdie with four bogeys with three coming in his last six holes as he had a back nine to forget.

Paul McBride shot a three-over 74 to leave him languishing on nine-over as his hopes of advancing came to an end early.

The Island player made the turn in two-over 37 after two birdies were cancelled out by two bogeys and a double bogey six on the 7th.

McBride is in third last place in 73rd.
