Rory McIlroy won’t have long to lick his wounds as he is set to take to the fairways of Whistling Straits this afternoon alongside Shane Lowry who will make his debut.

The Irish pair will face Tony Finau and rookie Harris English in the third match of the fourballs.

Dustin Johnson will partner the outstanding Xander Schauffele in the opening match against Paul Casey - who was beaten by Johnson 3&2 this morning – and Bernd Wiesberger who will become the first Austrian to tee it up at a Ryder Cup.

Tyrrell Hatton will partner Jon Rahm in the second match against Bryson DeChambeau and rookie Scottie Scheffler before Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay tackle Tommy Fleetwood and Victor Hovland.

Harrington has stuck to his guns as all twelve players will get game time on day one.

The US currently lead 3-1 after a birdie barrage in the morning foursomes in which McIlroy and Poulter were thumped by Cantlay and Schauffele and there were comfortable wins for Johnson and Morikawa and Koepka and Berger.
