Rory McIlroy and Seamus Power finally completed their first rounds of the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

The storms that have wreaked havoc with the first two days play have been replaced by cold temperatures and gale force winds as the players returned to a saturated golf course.

McIlroy slept knowing he was in prime position on the 16th fairway and he arrowed his second shot to 15-feet to set up an eagle opportunity. A shot worth waiting for if the putt wasn’t.

A tap in birdie for the 2019 champion to get back to level-par but he quickly gave it back with a three-putt bogey on 17. A par on 18 means after a ten-minute turnaround he will begin his second round on one-over-par after eventually scribbling his signature on a scorecard for a 73.

Power’s momentum after an eagle on his 11th hole on Friday wasn’t stalled as he completed his final four holes in level-par to sign for a one-under 72 in what was a valiant effort. He also faces a quick turnaround and will tee off just before half six Irish time.

Shane Lowry tees off at 11.39pm, which is after the sunset in Ponte Vedra so whether he gets to hit a competitive golf ball for the first time in over 48 hours is anybody’s guess.
