Leona Maguire shot a sensational two under par 70, to finish tied 6th at the Drive On Championship presented by Volvik at Golden Ocala, Flordia.
Sensational because she bogeyed the first two holes and found herself looking down the barrel of a gun called disaster.
Somehow, the Cavan native dug deep and went on a birdie run, birdieing 5, 6 and 7 before dropping a shot on nine, to make the turn on level par.
Maguire birdied 12 but dropped a shot on 14 and then, as she did in the opening two rounds birdied 17 and 18, to finish five under the tournament, worth $51,580.
A wonderful result, given where she was, standing on the third tee box.
The Slieve Russell ambassador has had a fantastic start to the season and must believe she can now go on and make the European team at this year’s Solheim Cup.
Austin Ernst collected her third title in 8 years with a 15 under par total. She made five birdies with two bogeys and finished two under for the day, leaving her five shots ahead of Jennifer Kupcho, who finished in second place.
Stephanie Meadow finished one over for the tournament and tied 34th place.
