WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Wilson Golf Staff Model wedges were geared towards the better player. Its latest Staff Model Tour Grind lineup takes that thought process a step further, delivering to the consumers sole grinds similar to what is played on Tour.
The new line is made from 8620 carbon steel, providing a soft feel. Machine-engraved score lines in the milled face create a higher density pattern that allows the ball to engage more groove edges at impact for enhanced spin, especially on half shots where the grooves don’t channel as much debris, but rather create spin through edge contact with the grooves on the ball. The sole is designed to make it easier to open the face, making it a good choice for tight lies or firm conditions.
“Consumers [have] the chance to play a wedge inspired by the custom grinds made uniquely for tour players such as Gary Woodland and Padraig Harrington,” says Jon Pergande, Wilson Golf’s global manager of innovation. “With a clean design and precision milled club faces, these Tour Grind wedges provide all golfers with more control of their shot-making capabilities and are a perfect complement to our existing Staff Model line of wedges.”
PRICE: The Staff Model wedges feature True Temper Dynamic Gold 120 steel shafts and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips. The standard version is available in 56, 58, and 60 degrees in right-hand only and will be in stores Feb. 9 at a price of €130 / £109 per wedge.
WHAT WILSON GOLF HAVE TO SAY: Wilson Golf, the brand with more Major wins with its wedges than any other (82), has extended its Staff Model wedge range with the launch of the Tour Grind sole model, designed for players looking to improve precision around the greens.
Created in collaboration with experienced Wilson Tour Advisory Staff members, the wedge caters for players wanting to open the clubface to shape different types of greenside shots. Ideal for tighter lies or firmer course conditions, the Staff Model Tour Grind sole wedge will help more accomplished, technical players get the most out of their game.
“The new Staff Model Tour Grind wedges offer golfers the chance to play a wedge inspired by the custom grinds made for Tour players like Gary Woodland and Padraig Harrington,” said Jon Pergande, Global Manager of Innovation at Wilson Golf. “The sole offers a clean design and a precision milled clubface, allowing golfers to increase shot-making capabilities and it complements our existing Staff Model line of wedges perfectly,” he added.
Featuring soft-forged 8620 Carbon Steel construction, the Staff Model Tour Grind wedge provides a soft touch for an increased feel when golfers strike the ball. Machine-engraved score lines in the precision milled face create a higher density pattern for maximum spin and control on every shot.
The Tour Grind sole model joins the traditional wedge and the Hi-Toe version in the Wilson Staff Model wedge line-up.
The family of Staff Model wedges feature True Temper Dynamic Gold 120 steel shafts and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips. The new Tour Grind wedge is available in 56, 58 & 60-degree options at an RRP of €130 / £109 from February 2021.
